C4P Mobility Labs

The Citizen Mobility Labs have been inspired by the successful paradigm of the Amsterdam Smart Citizens Lab organised in the City of Amsterdam by WAAG Society. These labs use a bottom-up approach, based on a community-based and participatory model so that local communities can be involved in all steps of mobility strategy developments of a city, from problem mapping to action planning and decision making. The labs provide the open (physical) space where interested community members come together with mobility experts, policy makers and other urban mobility stakeholders in order to discuss new ideas, initiate new projects for their neighbourhoods or districts, and share outcomes in the forms of blueprints, codes, best practices and the like.

Although we set up and we support these labs, the ownership remains with the communities that use and run them.

Our local teams facilitate the work of the communities using creative methods for collaboration and co-creation techniques or suggesting methods and tools for data collection, idea generation and prototyping. Resorting to offline and online technologies, Cities-4-People team members and local participants have contributed to building a customised toolkit, the Citizen Mobility Kit.

The work of each community is publicised through cyclical Presentation Days ad Mobility Hackdays, which serve to draw the attention of different stakeholders and involve them in the process. See if there are any coming up.

As the labs work to find adequate solutions to local challenges, they are all different. Why not getting a glimpse of their activities and progress singularly?

Yes, our Labs are open and welcoming! Come visit us, if not in person, at least virtually. And do give us feedback!
