Last 6th May the 22nd People’s Cycling Tournament “The Tour of Trikala” took place. On that same day, our Trikala team launched the Citizen Mobility Lab, involving all participants and spectators, as well as passers-by. As a matter of fact, the Lab is conveniently located in the central square of the city, which happened to be the starting point of “The Tour of Trikala” and which will be the intervention area chosen for our project.
Cities-4-People brochures were distributed just before the start of the race and everyone was asked to jot down their thoughts on the mobility in the city: what would they like to change? What would be needed to improve urban mobility? The post-its that were used to collect ideas will be kept and exhibited on the poster hanging in the Lab.
The space used for the Citizen Mobility Lab is the Municipality’s Info Point, a strategic choice because of its position and visibility. The square is a place of intense mobility, in terms of both pedestrians and car-drivers. Moreover, at the Info Point people can rent out municipal bikes, adding yet another possible audience for the Lab. Although the inner space is limited (with a capacity of about 10), the square offers much room for activities.
Over the next months, the Lab will make use of this core mobility area to engage citizens in its re-definition. We hope you’ll have the chance to pass by and provide your input!
