Hack Day in Trikala – round 2

The Trikala Hack Day was held on 20 September at the e-trikala Operational Control Center and immediately followed the Presentation Day.

During the first piloting round, the Citizen Mobility Community in Trikala came up with a solution to reduce the traffic in the city centre by installing easily accessible, free lockers inside the Info Point, where people could drop heavy bags. Cycling and walking have also been promoted through  the pedestrianisation of the streets around the main square. Moreover, people with mobility impairments can now use for free electric scooters they can attach to a wheelchair, transforming it into a three-wheeler which can cover longer distances faster.

These interventions have been taken as a starting point for the Hack Day activities. The goal of the day was to collect opinions and refine the pilots to develop potential scale-up scenarios.

Two co-creation activities were organised to engage with the Mobility Community during the Hack Day. Participants engaged in the crazy 8 activity to collect ideas for the scale-up. Potential risks or obstacles for each option were also identified. Afterwards, participants selected and voted up their preferred ideas using the ambition ranking process. As a result, 5 clear concepts were developed and then posted on the Your Priorities e-voting tool to be approved by the online community.

As a cool-off activity at the end of the event, participants were asked to give “One word before leaving” to express their feeling regarding the event. Once again, we received the confirmation that working with citizens to co-create better cities generates great engagement and awareness.
