The Üsküdar Hack Day was held on 25 September at the Discover Üsküdar Office in the Municipality of Üsküdar and built upon the results of the Presentation Day and QHS Workshop that were held at the beginning of September.

During the previous events, the Üsküdar Mobility Community selected the “I own my garden” intervention for the scale-up. The positive results and feedback from the intervention designed to improve the infrastructure at the Salih Solman Green Area have convinced to replicate this specific intervention in other green areas. Since other parks in Istanbul face similar challenges, this intervention was a perfect testbed to identify transferable good practices.

The goal of the Hack Day was therefore to start from the experience of the first round of pilots and develop new and improved scale-up concepts to address similar mobility challenges.

Once participants had gathered, the Hack Day started with a presentation on the work done sofar and a discussion on the different scale-up possibilities. To share ideas and develop new concepts, the Paint Drawing co-creation method was used. Positive and negative comments gathered from the Your Priorities e-participation tool were visualized on a large panel and participants contributed by adding new comments and suggestions.

After this first discussion, it was the time for participants to prioritize the developed concepts and select one to be prototyped and scaled-up. Collecting participants’ order of preferences for scale-up ideas provided a good picture of the value attributed to each concept by the Mobility Community.

Engaging with stakeholders proved fundamental for the formulation of innovative solutions. Our local team gathered concrete concepts that will be tested during the prototyping activities.
