Our three interventions in Budapest included the setup of a Mobility point at St. Gellért Square, at the exit of the Metro Line 4. St. Gellért Square is a busy public transport hub along the Danube river bank on the Buda side. The Mobility point was installed to help achieve urban micro-mobility objectives. More precisely, it offers access to several transportation modes and related services, bringing together in a central location within a highly frequented area MOL Bubi and Donkey Republic bike sharing, LIME e-scooter sharing, MOL LIMO and GreenGo car sharing services.
The Mobility point supports locals in their daily mobility, but also tourists each day between 7.00 am – 7.00 pm. This pilot was officially inaugurated by Mrs. Alexandra Szalay-Bobrovniczky, Deputy Mayor of Budapest, one month ago, on 10 May and will last until the end of June 2019. The closure will be celebrated through a mobility breakfast planned for 25 June.
In just 30 days, the Mobility point has gained popularity and the number of registered trips in the area as doubled for all five transportation providers. The secret behind the Mobility point’s success is that there is a smooth cooperation among the Municipality of the City of Budapest and the mobility service providers. To have a successful scale-up at the beginning of 2020, the results and experts’ feedback of Mobility point pilot test phase will be analysed and further investigated with the Budapest project team.
