The Cities-4-People project has achieved great results! Three years have passed since the Citizen Mobility Community of Oxfordshire was formed to co-create real-world solutions to tackle local transport challenges. Now, the community has a brand-new minibus service available, connecting neighbouring villages and allowing the citizens to reach multiple desirable destinations that are otherwise only accessible by private car or taxi.

Urban mobility in Budapest has also been promoted by inviting the public to discover the city following a 3-km walking path with 10 stations along the Danube. The path was inaugurated in July 2019 and can be walked in about 1 hour. Along the way, navigation signs guide people from one station to the following one. Each station is provided with a table reporting information on the specific spot, fun facts and quizzes, together with an explanation of the Cities-4-People project.

One of the Cities-4-People interventions in Trikala consists in providing people with mobility impairments with a free electric scooter that can be attached to their wheelchair to enable them to cover longer distances and move more independently in the city.

Thanks to Cities-4-People, Budapest has its first Mobility Point, a facility which should help address first- and last-mile issues by complementing public transport services at St. Gellért Square with different shared mobility options. In Budapest, the C4P team has involved citizens, public authorities, transportation providers and businesses in a discussion on how to improve mobility along the Műegyetem embankment and at Batthyány Square. Read more here.

Thanks to Cities-4-People, the Info Point in Trikala now hosts a new service, making lockers of different size accessible to anyone, upon provision of an ID card, during the office’s working hours. While tourists can drop their luggage for a couple of hours and explore the city, locals can leave their market bags and go to the next appointment without loads. Trikala’s Citizen Mobility Community also suggested to offer people with mobility impairments electric scooters they can attach to a wheelchair, transforming it into a three-wheeler which can cover longer distances faster. Therefore, the Info Point is now equipped with scooters that people on a wheelchair can use for free and with no time restriction.

For the second time, Cities-4-People took part in the Altonale Festival in Hamburg, bringing a touch of sustainable mobility. Read more about it here.

As a part of the Cities-4-People project, our team in Trikala piloted the functioning of smart storage lockers at the Info Point in the main square. The lockers are expected to enable people to drop their bags and therefore renounce to private car usage in favour of sustainable transportation means, such as bikes, public transport or simply walking.

Our Oxfordshire team is working with the Citizen Mobility Community in Barton to improve mobility in the area. One of the envisioned solution is the demand-responsive bus service PickMeUp. Through co-creation sessions additional input will be collected and mobility interventions will be collectively designed, tested and assessed. Read more here.
