On the 21st of December the co-creation workshop was successfully held in Üsküdar, following up the series of warm-up events.
The event took place in the Idea and Art Center with the aim of concluding on the mobility challenges and the areas and districts where our mobility interventions will be implemented. Therefore, after a quick presentation to remind participants about the overall goals of the Cities-4-People project, 4 different groups were created, each one focusing on an area which faces a mobility problem. More specifically, the areas scrutinised and the related problems that were identified are:
- The seaside pedestrian and bicycle roads from the centre of Üsküdar to Çengelköy, which is affected by heavy traffic and scarce support infrastructure for cyclists and pedestrians
- Üsküdar Square, Selmanipak Street, Hakimiyeti Milliye Street and New Masque Square, an area in which too many different transportation modes come together impairing mobility and livability
- Aziz Mahmut Hudai area, characterised by heavy traffic
- Seaside pedestrian and bicycle roads from Salacak to the centre of Üsküdar, lacking the necessary support infrastructure for alternative mobility modes.
Some solutions were already hinted at, for example the possibility to create parking spaces in the Aziz Mahmut Hudai area and connect the area to the centre by means of shuttle buses in order to lighten the traffic, while also enabling mobility from and to the centre. The following sessions of the workshop serve to discuss about these initial suggestions on how to tackle these mobility issues and to agree on the overall ambition for the areas involved in the project by means of specific co-creation tools, such as the Ambition Ranking.
