    BartOn the Move: Presentation Day

    By Cities4people | Event, News, OCC Lab, Upcoming Event | Comments are Closed | 13 August, 2019 | 0

In the last year and a half, Cities-4-People has come a long way in Barton. From finding out what your transport challenges are, to developing solutions to overcome these challenges, to actually piloting 3 of these solutions out, we’ve been working together with local residents, transport providers, academics, and local government to increase the role of the Barton Community in creating new transport solutions.

We’re not stopping there though: the next 8 months may be the most important of all and have the longest impact. We are going to scale-up one of the pilots into a sustainable and long-term solution in Barton and other parts of Oxford. To do this we’ll be taking everything we have learned so far and together with you decide which of the 3 pilot transport solutions has the most potential. With the Barton Community and residents of other neighbourhoods in Oxford we will re-design and improve the pilot in the Autumn. Then, we will run the larger pilot in Barton and other parts of Oxford in January and February 2020.

The goal of creating a new and sustainable transport solution together with Barton’s residents in the next 6 months is exciting and ambitious. Your support and insights are crucial in achieving this goal. To reduce demands on your time we will be holding only 2 large events and one online vote to decide what we are going to do and develop our long-term solution. The first of these will be the Presentation Day on Friday the 16th August where you can help decide how we will go forward with the project.

The Presentation Day will be held on Friday, 16th August from 2 to 5pm in the Makerspace in the County Library, located in the Westgate Shopping Centre. All are welcome. Refreshments will be provided. Click here to register for the Presentation Day.

This event will have 2 parts: in the first we will present the results from the pilot transport solutions that were tested earlier this year in Barton. From March to May of this year we ran 3 pilot transport solutions that were developed together with people in Barton. These were providing information about the concessionary bus pass, a free shuttle service to affordable supermarkets, and face to face smartphone app training. These pilots were closely monitored to measure effectiveness—the results of this monitoring will be provided in the first half of the Presentation Day.

In the second half, participants of the Presentation Day will take part in several activities to decide which of the 3 pilots should be scaled up into a larger pilot. Participants will also decide which areas in addition to Barton the pilot should be scaled-up into. In future events, this pilot will be re-designed, improved, and then tested in January and February next year.
