As the project name highlights, the focus of Cities-4-People is people. More precisely, the project aims to establish local Citizen Mobility Communities that are willing to work on local mobility issue and collaborate towards viable solutions. Therefore, a series of 3 “warm-up” events such as info-days, meetings and neighbourhood gatherings in each of the 5 targeted areas were organised to start building a community spirit. Emphasis was given to engaging already existing communities of citizens and mobility enthusiasts of each region.
The warm-up events represented the first step of a sequence of activities that strengthened and widened the community. The main goals of the warm-up activities were to:
- Raise awareness of the Cities-4-People vision
- Engage local citizens
- Inform citizens about the ‘Citizen Mobility Community’ as a concept for local communities to get involved in the development of mobility solutions of their regions.
The warm-up activities contributed to create a first pool of motivated citizens and mobility enthusiasts. Building on them, Cities-4-People regional partners started organising the next series of collaborative activities, the co-creation and the consultation workshops.
The co-creation workshops served to select the mobility challenges and the application areas for which interventions will be developed and where these interventions will be deployed. The identification of challenges and intervention areas worked as a collective process according to which key stakeholders and authorities of the local mobility innovation ecosystem decided together.
Overall 7 co-creation workshops were organised in the 5 targeted areas between December 2017 and January 2018 involving approximately 128 stakeholders. For more information regarding each area’s co-creation workshop, their structure and the identified challenges you can follow the links below:

Following the co-creation workshops, another series of collaborative activities took place, this time focusing on the establishment of ‘Citizen Mobility Communities’. 5 consultation workshops were co-organised by Cities-4-People partners and the early local communities in order to define the structure, vision and strategy of the Communities. Notably, the goal of the consultation workshops was to have local communities self-define:
- Their objectives
- Their overall structure, roles and responsibilities and
- Specific action plans for their engagement.
Most of the consultation workshops were held in February 2018 and approximately 100 stakeholders participated in the events in the 5 targeted areas. For more information regarding each area’s consultation workshop, their structure and the key discussions you can follow the links below.
